After years of service to the town of Carmel-by-the-Sea, long-time resident and prominent member of the Carmel community Gerard Rose has relocated to Chicago. O ne of Carmel’s most beloved and respected residents recently pulled up stakes and relocated to Chicago. Attorney Gerard Rose has led a long love affair with this city by the sea, and helped shepherd several landmark projects that have enhanced the lives of both residents and visitors. Rose worked as a civil litigator for more than five decades and has no[ Jormally adopt - ed “inactive status.” But that doesn’t mean he’s opting for a life of retirement. “I’m not dropping my commitment to work for Carmel and do what I can to maintain the village’s character,” he says. A highly active member of the community, he served on the boards of Carmel Rotary, the Stillwater Yacht Club, the Carmel Chamber of Commerce and PacRep Theatre. Rose served on the Carmel City Council from 2000-2010, including three years as mayor pro tem. During his service he spearheaded the creation of the Fourth Avenue walking path, advocated for retaining the city’s quaint lack of home street address, worked to ban smoking on our beaches, and launched the sublime remodeling of Sunset Center. Rose has also published 10 books: two chil- dren’s books and eight novels. Two more are forthcoming. He’s settling in Chicago with his wife Marian Fitzgibbon.
