I saw that there were many homebound people in our community who need the assis- tance MoW provides. I recognized an opportunity to help raise funds for the great work the organization does.” Other organizations Lozano has volun- teered for include Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, Salinas Chamber of Commerce, Pac-Rep Theatre, and the Italian Heritage Society. Today, Lozano dedicates her volunteer time to Salinas’ California International Airshow. She’s worked with them for more than 25 years. “I started in hospitality, then moved to working with marketing, working with the performers and media relations.” She cites the Friday of the show as her favorite.“The performers do a practice show in the afternoon, and we invite kids from the Make-a-Wish Foundation to watch. They get to be in the VIP media area, meet the pilots and get autographs and photos. You can’t feel better about life than when you’re seeing these kids smiling and having a great day.” — Michael Chatfield VOLUNTE ER PROF I L E Julie Ann Lozano
